Spectator Safety Information
GUIDE TO SAFE SPECTATING

WARNING! MOTOR SPORT CAN BE DANGEROUS - PLEASE OBSERVE THE FOLLOWING GUIDE

ROAD CLOSURE: The roads will be officially closed with the passage of a marked Targa Course Safety car with flashing lights and siren. This car will close the course approximately one half hour (30 mins) before a course safety check car which will proceed the first competition car by approximately 2 minutes.

After the stage is closed, do not move onto or cross the road. The competing cars will pass at approximately 30 second (OR LESS) intervals.

The roads will be closed up to 1.5 hours (90 mins). Exact road closure times will be published in the local press, one week before the event.

ROAD OPENING:
The road will be officially opened with the passage of a marked Targa Course Safety car with flashing lights soon after the last competition car has passed. Please do not move onto the road until this safety car has passed.

 ALWAYS....
Ÿ STAY ALERT! The unexpected may happen.

Ÿ Wait until the marked police car with flashing lights passes your location before moving
onto or across the road as there may have been a delay in the passage of competing cars.

Ÿ Stand where you can see the competing cars coming and going.

Ÿ Leave yourself room to move away quickly.

Ÿ Spectate from behind the YELLOW taped zones

Ÿ Keep children under constant and close supervision.

Ÿ Keep animals on a leash.

Ÿ Do as the safety marshals and senior officials direct - they have been trained in safe
      spectating procedures.

Ÿ Face the competing cars.

The Targa stage will not start, or continue, until the safety official's and marshals are sure the course is safe. PLEASE OBEY THEIR INSTRUCTIONS.

NEVER....

Ÿ Stand in prohibited RED TAPED areas (study the spectator viewing diagrams below).

Ÿ Stand or sit close to the edge of a road.

Ÿ Stand below the level of the road (or in gutters or culverts).

Ÿ Stand in run-ff (escape) routes for competing cars.

Ÿ Sit down at a location on the same level as the cars - you need to be standing so that
you are able to move away quickly if necessary.

Ÿ Stand behind red taped zones.

Ÿ Stand in front of arrows or signs relevant to the running of the event.

Ÿ Be distracted

Ÿ Stand on, or cross, the road while it is officially closed.

Ÿ Play games with your safety, or with that of the competitors.

NEVER BE THE ONE TO CAUSE A TARGA STAGE TO BE STOPPED!
