Technical Services

Preparing a car for Targa can be complicated. The team at Targa Newfoundland is here to assist competitors in selecting the class that they want to compete in and, where necessary, to provide advice or guidance in equipping, choosing or preparing a vehicle. We want to ensure that each competitor competes in the class he/she has chosen and to as great an extent possible ensure that he/she has the information necessary to make their vehicle comply with the rules and regulations for that class.

A considerable part of success at Targa Newfoundland is being in the right class and having ideal safety equipment. We encourage all competitors to purchase all required items before arriving in Newfoundland. For more information or if you have any questions or concerns, please contact David Lambert david.lambert@sympatico.ca.

Vehicle Transportation

As Newfoundland is an island, all competition vehicles that come must cross the water by ferry or be flown in. A variety of ways are available to get both you and your vehicle to Targa Newfoundland. Competitors can travel to Newfoundland and the event by driving or flying. Your vehicle can be driven, trailered or shipped but no matter what way you choose you will need to take some time to consider the best method for you and to make reservations that will insure both you and your vehicle get here when you want.

East Can Transport is a privately owned, for hire carrier, based in St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada. Their auto carrier division transports vehicles of all sizes. For more information, please visit their website.

Crew Training

Targa Newfoundland is much different than any other motorsport you have participated in. Therefore, if you are a novice to Targa, we suggest that you undertake special training regardless of your past experience. There is no better insurance for protecting your investment and your adventure than by visiting Openroad Motorsports Limited of Ottawa.

We have worked closely with Openroad Motorsports Limited of Ottawa (owned and operated by Glen Clarke a six time competitor and overall winner of the event) to create a Targa specific drivers and co-drivers school for the event. This school, due to its popularity, is run twice each year, at Mosport track in Ontario (mid-summer) and on the roads of Bell Island, Newfoundland (just 40 minutes from St. John’s by ferry). The Bell Island school is the Thursday and Friday before the event.
