Description:
History
In 2002, Rev. Dr. Edison Wiltshire was appointed by Targa Newfoundland to develop and administer a Chaplaincy programme for the event. Robert Giannou reported in the first Targa Chaplaincy brochure: "We welcome Edison and Marg-o's involvement in Targa 2002 and in future events. Chaplaincy services are an important part of our commitment to holistic services to our competitors, officials and spectators, and to the communities through which events travel."
Not only did Edison accept the Chaplaincy challenge, he and Marg-o also become competitors in the Targa division. Edison was soon dubbed "The Faster Pastor" by fellow competitors. They are proud to be part of the elite group of who have run in all Targa Newfoundland events, and especially proud to be the only team who have competed together as Driver and Navigator in every event.
The Cars
In the inaugural year they competed in the Targa Historic Category in Edison's 1951 Citroen Traction Avant, finishing in second place.
In Targa 2003, they competed in the Classic Category in Marg-o's 1969 Citroen DS 20, winning they class division.
In Tara 2004, 2005 and 2006, they competed in their right hand drive1977 Citroen CX GTi, winning their class for Modern Standard Specification, small displacement each time.
The Wiltshires broke the Citroen tradition in Targa 2007 and ran a 1979 Porsche 911 Targa, a donation to Ezra Chaplaincy by Garry O'Connor. With the help of the Paciona boys, the Porsche was being fitted for the 2007 competition. Edison and Marg-o are proud that in that event they won their first Silver Targa Plate, and also were one of the three Porsche Teams to share the Kenzie Cup.
The People
Edison is an ordained minister and has worked in fulltime nondenominational Chaplaincy for the past 20 years. He is skilled in social work and is a licensed counselor.
Marg-o is the executive assistant for Ezra Chaplaincy, the agency which they founded in 1999 and through which they and their associates perform their work.
Both have had an interest in classic cars for decades. In 1993 they took a Road Trip across Canada from St. John's to the Yukon in a 1929 Mercedes replicar raising awareness of the needs of troubled people. Edison is the President of the Wheels of Summer Car Club in Clarenville, and both he and Marg-o are members of the Citroen Auto Club of Canada and the Prosche Club of America. Being Newfoundlanders, they have a keen interest in the economic and entertainment benefit Targa provides for the province.
"JumpStart" Programme
Team Ezra is proud to partner with the Canadian Tire "JumpStart" programme. "JumpStart" is a community-based charitable program that helps kids in financial need participate in organized sport and recreation such as hockey, soccer and swimming, "helping give all kids a sporting chance."
Ezra Chaplaincy
Ezra Chaplaincy was founded to provide ministry to people in community, especially those in the work place and those with unique interests. Included in its sphere of services is chaplaincy in eastern Newfoundland to the offshore oil industry, the aviation industry, and the oil refining industry.
