How do I get there?

The Targa Competition is a serious full-blooded performance competition for prepared vehicles. Competitors will tackle 40 stages where the roads are closed and speed counts! Because of the high speeds, vehicles must meet stringent safety requirements, and competitors must be licensed for motorsports competition. More information on Competition Licensing is available further down on this page.

There are THREE major divisions within the Targa Competition:

  • Classic (Vehicles manufactured from 1900 - 1981)

  • Modern (vehicle manufactured from 1982 - Present)

  • Open (Vehicles manufactured from 1900-Present)

Two of the three divisions (Classic, Modern) are further divided into 9 narrow age categories. Vehicles are then divided into Standard Specification (suspension and minor performance modifications allowed) & Modified Specification (extensive modifications to suspension, chassis and drivetrain are allowed) and, if numbers permit, a further breakdown of Large Displacement and Small Displacement engines will be made . The Unlimited Division is for "hybrid" vehicles, who's level of modifications don't meet the Classic and Modern division regulations and cause the vehicle to be outside the realm of "period correct". An example of such a vehicle would be one with differing engine and chassis manufacturers.

The Targa Competition format is similar to the format of special stage rallies in Europe, the United States and Canada. the accumulated time penalties assessed on the Targa stages determine the ranking among the divisions and classes.
