About
Volunteer
Volunteering at Targa Newfoundland is the opportunity of a lifetime – you’ll meet friends from both near and far while participating in one of the automotive world’s most exciting events. You’ll also have the best seat in the house for the live action of Targa Newfoundland, a perk our volunteers tell us is well worth the commitment!
"Volunteering for Targa is an immensely enjoyable way to spend a week every September. Like all the volunteers, I give my free time to this event, as part of a really huge team of hundreds of volunteers. In my case, I use one of my two weeks of vacation time! My Timing Control Team, all of whom have become great friends, work to ensure that each and every stage runs efficiently and on time. In concert with the other Timing Control Teams, the Safety Marshals and Targa Management, we operate an event that is safe for spectators, exciting for competitors, and a blast for everyone!"

"I had a fantastic time, and I can't wait to do it again." Alex Schubel- Targa Volunteer 2009
"I will be back next year; put me in any position you see fit. I am just happy to be a part of such an awesome event held in Newfoundland." Dale Pearcey, Targa Volunteer 2009, Timing Team E
"I really enjoyed my time touring and working with Targa NL. Although I'd been to NL several times before, I really didn't experience Newfoundland until this trip. It was a wonderful time!"
Phil Ossinger, Fredericton, NB, Stage Operations Volunteer 2009
"Pierrette and I had a wonderfull time at TARGA 2009. We definately want to go back next year. As far as I am concerned, the Flying Finish is the job we want to keep with team E."
Jean Francois Drolet, Neuville, Quebec, Stage Operations Volunteer 2009
We’ll be covering a distance of over 2000 km during our event – including approximately 500 km of timed Targa competitive stages. We require a large number of volunteer officials to ensure the smooth running of the competition and of course, to keep our spectators and competitors safe. Safety is a priority of Targa Newfoundland – in the event of any emergency, volunteers & staff within the vicinity of the event will respond immediately.
We have a proven record, in our province and industry, as an event with a first-class commitment to safety. It is a responsibility we do not take lightly.
To keep us safe and meet the goals of our event, we provide training free of charge to volunteers. All of our volunteers receive Targa Newfoundland branded hats to ensure they are easily identifiable to competitors, fellow volunteers, safety officials and spectators.
We have a broad range of roles that require volunteer assistance. Common volunteer roles include Volunteer Marshalls and assisting with stage preparation and security but there are many other volunteer positions that may meet your skills! Youth under the legal age may be able to volunteer pending parental and managerial consent.
